Nach aktueller Forschungslage (30. September 2020) ist die Rate...:

der falsch positiven; die Person hat kein Corona, wird aber positiv getestet: <0,1%

der falsch negativen; die Person hat Corona, wird aber negativ getestet: >15% - <37%

gemessen an der Gesamtzahl der durchgeführten Tests.

Die Zahl der falsch negativen Tests ist also 10-20 mal so hoch wie die Zahl der falsch positiven Tests. Von daher ist die Zahl der falsch positiven Tests insgesamt vernachlässigbar.

Da die Zahl der infizierten Menschen sehr viel geringer ist, als die der Infizierten, ist die Anzahl falsch positiver Tests, zumindstens theoretisch, nicht unbedingt vernachlässigbar. In den USA wurden schon mehrere PCR Kits wegen zu vieler false positives zurückgezogen und auch in UK geht man in der Praxis von einem Wert von 0,8%-4.0% aus.

"Technical problems including contamination during sampling (eg, a swab accidentally touches a contaminated glove or surface), contamination by PCR amplicons, contamination of reagents, sample cross-contamination, and cross-reactions with other viruses or genetic material could also be responsible for false-positive results. These problems are not only theoretical; the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention had to withdraw testing kits in March, 2020, when they were shown to have a high rate of false-positives due to reagent contamination.

The current rate of operational false-positive swab tests in the UK is unknown; preliminary estimates show it could be somewhere between 0·8% and 4·0%.This rate could translate into a significant proportion of false-positive results daily due to the current low prevalence of the virus in the UK population, adversely affecting the positive predictive value of the test. Considering that the UK National Health Service employs 1·1 million health-care workers, many of whom have been exposed to COVID-19 at the peak of the first wave, the potential disruption to health and social services due to false positives could be considerable."
